If Santa Claus was a woman I always say she’d be Merle Foster,” Gordon Sinclair, the legendary Canadian journalist and broadcaster, told readers of his Radio column in the Toronto Daily Star, in 1952.
Thank you Sarah rose for liking my post on Hadassah Ministry, I do not like Santa as he tries to take all the glory of Christmas for himself, when it belongs to Jesus.
I’m not Canadian but I am a lover of the history of rock/pop music and know of Gordon through his single, “The Americans” in 1973. Since learning about him I’ve learned a few things about him and appreciated his tribute to America. I was pleasantly surprised to see a tribute to his words here on your blog. And because of that, I read some of your blog and enjoyed my visit here.
A nude Santa? Santress? Whatever … the mind boggles. And I’ll bet that sack on the shoulders is scratchy. Mind you, it might save on laundry but would require an awesome amount of scrubbing to get rid of the soot after all those chimneys. ‘Blackbeard the Santa’? Ye gods …
In our house Santa is certainly female… Very colorful and entertaining blog. Thanks so much for stopping by and liking my post “A Better Gift” on Soulsify! Hope to see you there again, and I’ll be back to yours!
If santa is indeed a lady like Merle Foster, that would give single fathers more of a reason to stay up on christmas than the kids. Thanks for stopping by Unspeakable Gibberer! Happy Holidays!
Well we have a Cyber-Santa Ralph, and now a Cyber-Santa Sarah. Why not? So that makes Santa’s spouse, Mr. Claus. I bet you anything that Mr. Claus fights Santa to get to drive the sleigh! Thanks for finding and visiting my blog. Love having you, Santa. Come back any time. Marsha
Sorry, Sarah but Santa was not a lady or even a woman. As you no doubt know, the historical Santa Claus is Saint Nicholas who was a Catholic Bishop in what is now Turkey. (Santa= Saint and Claus from Nicholas). Because of this there wasn’t even a Mrs. Claus as Bishops cannot be married. Why don’t you tell about the real reason for Christmas. If anyone wants to know about the date of Christmas and other traditions go to http://suite101.com/article/origins-of-christmas-and-its-traditions-a399154
Hi Sarah! Thanks for visiting our happy little homestead @ Stand Upon Grace! Stop on by again!!! What a fun Christmas blog! Wishing you a Peaceful, Joyous Christmas Season filled with blessings!
~Wendy
Yes Santa is a lady! Do you think men (of which I am one) came up with a tradition that requires so much attention to detail in the planning and preparation? Not a chance! Come on think about it. Cookies and milk? Wrong. It would be nachos and a cold beer left out if Santa were a man. Then how messed up would things get? I would be receiving an armpit hair remover for Christmas and you get a set of boxer briefs and new tie!
You can never be careful enough and Santas are not above being shysters as well. A couple of years ago over a hundred Santas were arrested in Ohio being drunk and causing affront, while in Amsterdam 2 females dressed in Santa suits were helping themselves to Ipads and jars of pickled herring. Wasn’t there a Santa who held up a yacht club in Rose Bay a couple of years ago or was that in Fremantle?
Well, Saint Nicholas was evidently real enough but I’m unsure of the red suit, reindeer and “Ho, ho, ho!” in his case. And where do conifers come in? I’m guessing Santa is an amalgam of myths. In that case, if we wish to add the gender myth, who’s to gainsay that? We’ve gone in that direction already in less likely cases, surely? Saint Nicholas is for adults; Santa on the other hand, is a figure of fun (with a little moral built in) for kids…
I’ll be happy so long as most folks can still tell the difference between Santa and the Government…
Not sure I want to be mama Clause but those elf outfits are quite yummy! However, not sure they would come in extra gigantic (elves run on the tiny side) and if they did I don’t think I could stomach looking at the XXXXXXXXXXXXL on the tag every morning.
Dear MS. Santa please do not send me an elf costume for christmas
I love the Pin-Up style model in the photo. How about a more seductive female Santa, one that is certainly different – Bettie Page. There are some awesomely kitsch photos of Bettie in Santa outfits.

Hi Wendy,I will.
Merry Christmas!

Santa may not be a lady, but he looks pleased with the lady stepping out of his bag.

Is Santa a lady? Nice challenging idea. Thanks. But I need time to readjust my gender blinkers. [From someone who tends toward the Bah Humbug tribe].
If Santa was a woman I just might still believe in her/him and defiantly sit on Santa’s lap . Merry Christmas
